School lunches are important! Why? Because children are important. New Orleans Pizza recognizes the challenges that schools are faced with when organizing lunches for their students. When working with New Orleans Pizza, we will work with your school representative to make school lunches easy.

Since 1978, New Orleans Pizza has been offering school lunches. With 70 restaurants in southwestern Ontario we have extensive experience serving schools. School Lunch Menu

The New Orleans Pizza school lunch menu has many choices. All the stores offer our fantastic pizza – take note that children in particular love our pizza because of the fresh, soft crust.

Most New Orleans Pizza stores offer the following:

Some schools have requested "combos" (try 4 Chicken Chunks and a Garlic Strip) or "add-ons" (try carrot and celery sticks) and we are happy to accommodate custom requests.

Pizza Slices

New Orleans Pizza uses a large 14" pizza. We will custom cut your pizza to suit your school. Some schools choose a 6 or 8 cut, others opt for a 10. We use "pizza dividers" to ensure even cuts, avoiding size discrepancies.

Order Frequency

New Orleans Pizza will be happy to work with you – whether weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. Occasional orders are also most welcome and easily accommodated. Some schools choose to provide us with their yearly schedule of pizza days; others contact us the week prior. Schools who are not able to confirm quantities when they book their orders for the month or year will call to confirm their order quantities several days prior to their day of delivery. If ever your school finds itself in a dilemma and needs a school lunch at short notice be sure to contact us. Given our resources, we are often able to come to your rescue.

Nutritional Benefits

Our pizza contains many ingredients that are not only healthy for growing children, but a necessity.

Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating reminds us that we need to eat a variety of foods from each food group every day:

• Grain Products: can provide protein, carbohydrates, fibre and iron
• Vegetables and Fruits: can provide carbohydrates, vitamins C and A, iron and fibre
  
• Milk Products: can provide protein, fat, vitamin D and calcium
  
• Meat and Alternatives: can provide protein, fat, iron and vitamin B12

To be healthy we need all types of food – including proteins, fats and carbohydrates – in balance. Depending on topping choice, pizza can a be a healthy balance of nutrition that both children and adults alike need.

Calcium and Other Key Minerals and Vitamins (Cheese): Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating recommends 2-4 servings of milk products a day; a child's adolescent years are a "window of opportunity" to build strong bones to last a lifetime and protect against the risk of osteoporosis. A slice of cheese pizza is a good source of calcium. Cheese is a highly nutritive ingredient rich in proteins and minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, potassium, and A and B complex vitamins. Child nutrition expert, Elizabeth Ward, suggests "Cheese is a solution for getting more calcium in kids' diets." In addition, cheese is also a good source of protein, zinc and vitamin B12.

Protein (Cheese and Meat): Protein is an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin and blood. Cheese is a good source of protein. Meats too are an excellent source of protein; pepperoni, a favourite topping among pizza eaters, tends to be typically leaner than beef or sausage. Chicken and ham are leaner choice meats available as pizza toppings.

Lycopene (Sauce): Tomatoes are very rich in lycopene; a valuable anti-oxidant. Antioxidants help counteract the harmful effects called free radicals which are thought to contribute to many chronic diseases and age-related processes in the body. Studies have shown that eating a couple of servings a week of tomatoes in any of its edible forms (including pizza) significantly reduces the risk of certain cancers. In addition, various studies have also shown that cooking tomatoes actually increases the amount of lycopene available to the body!

Incentives

The best incentive for dealing with New Orleans Pizza is the satisfaction you will receive from knowing your students are enjoying a great lunch. Often New Orleans Pizza stores will offer other incentives to schools placing orders. Contact your local store for details.

What about nuts?

New Orleans Pizza does not use nuts or nut products. We supply many schools where nuts are an extremely sensitive item and never had an incident.

Fundraising Programs for Schools

New Orleans Pizza offers two fantastic programs to schools.

Annual School Fundraising Nights.

Held over a 3-day period in early May of each year, all schools are invited to participate by sending home Donation Forms with staff and students. Donation forms contain a line to enter the name of your school. When a purchase is made at New Orleans Pizza during the campaign and is accompanied by a Donation Form, New Orleans Pizza will donate one half of that sale to your school! Yes, 50% of the purchase is donated to the school of your choice. In 2007 New Orleans Pizza donated over $120,000 to area schools. Be sure to keep an eye out for your invitation and make sure your school RSVPs to participate.

Community Support Card Program

The second wonderful program we offer is our Community Support Card program. This program is offered free to schools. Staff and students sell Community Support Cards for $10 each. The card entitles the purchaser to receive their choice of a free third pizza, Cheesey Strips, Garlic Bread with Cheese, 4 cans of pop or Regular Caesar Salad whenever they purchase any two New Orleans Pizzas. The card can be saved and reused over a 6-month period. All proceeds from the sale of the cards are kept by your school! Purchasers enjoy it because they receive something of value the allows them to save money every time they use it; staff and students enjoy it because they are easy to sell and schools love it because it is a quick and easy way to raise money.

School Tours

We invite your school to come for a tour! Individual class tours are offered at New Orleans Pizza. This is a great opportunity to show children how large amounts of food can be stored, prepared, cooked and, of course, eaten. Children are fascinated by our stores – whether it be the large walk-in fridge and freezer that captivate them or our double conveyor ovens that amaze them, it is sure to be a tour they will love.
